Welcome to

African Pediatric Neurosurgery Section

The African Pediatric Neurosurgery Section (AfPNS) aims to prioritise the health and wellbeing of children with neurosurgical disease. To achieve this we will commit our time, energy and resources to support, advance and co-ordinate educational and research activities within Africa and abroad.

The growth of this group will include members from all representative regions across Africa who have an interest in pediatric neurosurgery.

This representation will take special cognisance of the  demographic, geographic, linguistic and logistic diversity across our continent, and our emblem will also reflect this aim and vision. The core structure of this group will be formed by trained pediatric neurosurgeons, but with a broader vision to embrace and include general neurosurgeons who treat children as well, as a part of their routine practice.

The AfPNS also represents the continental pediatric neurosurgical interest. It is supported by CAANS and our activities will be aligned with international structures of similar bodies including the ISPN, ESPN, WFNS, AASPN, ASOLANPed and the AANS/CNS Pediatric Section.

Our aim includes hosting a regular international scientific meeting that is attended and supported by physicians and allied health care professionals involved in the care children with neurosurgical disease. This will create the opportunity for us to share our advances and challenges on a multidisciplinary platform, and our bylaws will underscore this value system.

We will aim to provide faculty and support for educational courses in Africa. These courses (both virtual and in-person) would provide regionally relevant management options as well as the state-of-the-art in pediatric neurosurgery and assist in developing capacity and infrastructure.
